Seems that world war 3 could be erupting soon.
OK here are some of my views, flame me if you will, but everybody
here is entitiled to an opinion.
Some people suggested that flitering to the left lane to overtake
people if they cant stand the slower speed that the driver in front
is doing. I would suggest that these people relook at the highway
code. It states that on an expressway, the right lane, aka Lane 1
is for overtaking and thus it is called the overtaking lane. As far
as possible, keep to the left lane if you are not overtaking
anyone.
Let me cite an example of how overtaking on the left (even when
it's empty) is far less efficient than overtaking on the right.
Most of you are old enough to understand that a straight river is
faster flowing than a river that winds and turns through its
course. Why do you think that the govt is building drains as
straight as possible. It is to increase the speed of waterflow away
from the town and out into sea or reserviors. If we have drains
that turns its way round the city. We would be the next Atlantis
city.
Ok enough said about drains, lets transfer the drain concept onto
the roads. Overtaking on the left it's like negotiating an obsticle
course. The driver would have to fliter left, keep on the 2nd lane,
and then fliter right again. Ok, sounds simple right? Wrong.
Accidents are more prone to happen this way. Let's look into some
accidents scenarios. The driver may be in a rush and may not check
his blindspot and just fliters out, he may be on a collision course
with other motorist. The problem amplifies when it is wet. The car
may lose control while flitering out. If an emergency vehicle with
high CG were to do that in the rain, i could not imagine what the
outcome would be.
Sticking with the drain example, people keep flitering out of lane
1 just because there is an inconiderate road hogger that leaves a
gap big enough for a Boeing 747 to land (ok, I'm excerating but you
get the idea). It is uncalled for and very inconsiderate. It will
slow traffic down as drivers tend to slow down while flitering out.
This is one of the causes of the jams at CTE almost everyday.
ERP charges are on the rise partly due to these inconsiderate
people that slows the traffic and waste people's time. As the
saying goes, time is money. Our economy is losing millions due to
jams. I admit that jams are inevitable part of a developed society
but we must do something to at least reduce them and the first step
is by not road hogging. By not road hogging you are not only
helping yourself, and others around you, but the country's
economy.
In conclusion, please keep to the left few lanes and leave the
right most lane for overtaking only. I agree that travelling fast
is dangerous and as far as possible, should not be practiced. But
that's not the case with most road hoggers. If you are travelling
below 100kph and the traffic permits, keep left and stay
there.
*You may be fast but there are always others faster than you*
